This place needs a new location and a new building. It's just a poor location on the end of a small shopping and restaurant plaza.

A multi-media museum that teaches the history of West Texas through the personal experiences of individuals who lived around the 1800s. Professionally done and a must-experience place to go if you live in Abilene or just passing through.
  • Las Brisas, Krozar (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
I lived there for 4 years from 2002 to 2006. It is a low prices apartment community. Compared to its price-range competitors, the crime incidents appeared to be very low. Johnny (Community Manager) does a god job with enforcing a civil environment. The issues I have had are largely related to water leaks, namely slab leaks. These are devastating the the unit directly under the leak and causes many other units to lose water service while it is being repaired. Typically the water is shut off at a set time so that you know when you get your shower done. From my understanding, the newer two phases (the furthest from Hwy 277) do not have this problem. Another problem is that the included refrigerator used a lot of energy and added a substantial amount to my power bill. I found myself bringing in a small dorm unit to use for a fraction of the cost (savings was around $35/mo in Summer). Las Brisas seems to be geared to two types of people: The older retired, and the younger (premarital, college). Due to lack of 3 bedroom units, there are very few families. I enjoyed my living at Las Brisas and would have continued to live there if I had not transfered to a university in the DFW area.
  • Mall of Abilene, Davidson (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
This is the only mall in Abilene. It was zoned for an area void of much commercial development to help jump start Abilene's southern growth--it has been successful in this venture. The Mall of Abilene recently underwent a renovation to replace the entire interior flooring, remove older focal fixtures such as fountains, ceilings, and replace lighting fixtures within the thoroughfares. The Mall of Abilene is spread out rather than having a central atrium. While this requires more walking and can hamper a shop's visibility, it is seen as a plus to the "mall walkers". Plaques are in place throughout the mall to inform walkers of the traversed distance. In addition, The Mall of Abilene lacks a central food court, instead, food specialty stores typically have their own dining area within the store; the exception of this is Pretzel Express and Dippin' Dots which do not have an eating area. However, there is a small public eating area across from Chick-fil-A. Restaurants: El Chico, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Chuck E. Cheese's Specialty Coffee: Joe Muggs (within Books-A-Million)
